Manager of Content and Creative Services

We are seeking a Manager of Content and Creative Services for Austin Woman Magazine. This exciting new position will be responsible for AW’s print and digital editorial, as well as overall brand identity and management. As lead for the Editorial team, this role directs the Editorial staff, including the Copy Editor, interns and freelance/contract contributors, and works closely with the AW Founder and the VP of Business Operations. As the lead Creative for the company, you will have the opportunity to reimagine AW’s brand, overall magazine look and feel, and our digital presence. The ideal candidate for this position has previous content development and creative design experience, expert editorial skills, and a forwarding-thinking approach to content.
Expected Hours
Full Time, 40+ hours/week, Hybrid work environment
Overview of Responsibilities
- Own all aspects of content strategy and creation, including print and digital assets (magazine, website and newsletter) to ensure AW’s voice resonates with our audience
- Implement brand identity across all touchpoints and developing materials to support
- Lead the evolution from traditional content to dynamic and modern content that increases overall engagement, including new content delivery systems
- Create a content strategy and plan based on trends, audience insights, and data, and lead execution of content initiatives from ideation through design and creation
- Establish an editorial structure and calendar to guide content creation and distribution across print and digital mediums
- Project manage all components of AW’s monthly magazine, including content strategy, overseeing freelance writers, editing copy, and ensuring timely and on-budget completion of the magazine
- Develop and recommend results-based process improvements and optimized communication channels, tools, and strategies and be able to pivot and lead team through change management
- Attend community functions as a Brand Ambassador of Austin Woman
- Actively seek out new story ideas, trends and women to profile for print and digital
- Manage the intern program, including interviewing and securing candidates; onboarding and training interns as needed; and hosting weekly intern meetings
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Strong understanding of Adobe Creative Suite, Insight, ISSUU, Google suite, etc.
- Ability to design Austin Woman Magazine on InDesign
- Strong organizational skills and multitasking abilities
- Deadline focused, detail oriented
- Strong knowledge of best-in-class content practices and delivery
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with ability to synthesize complex concepts and translate into simple and clear communications and campaigns
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire others and affect change
Education/Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 3+ years experience in journalism, marketing or public relations
- Experience developing print and digital content

Editorial Internship – (rolling)
We rely on our editorial interns to help us find and tell the stories of all the incredible women in Austin. While our internship is unpaid, interns have the opportunity to write several stories per month for web and print. We also require our interns to work from our office to experience the process of creating a magazine and provide mentorship through our weekly intern meetings with the editorial team. This is a learning environment, so our goal is to help our interns identify their writing strengths, overcome their weaknesses and gain experience with magazine reporting and writing. We’re happy to work with schools to provide class credit.
Responsibilities:
- Pitch monthly story ideas for web and print
- Attend weekly intern meetings
- Choose one day a week to work one-on-one for two hours
- Write at least one article for print every month and at least two web articles per month
- Meet deadlines
Requirements:
- Writing experience,
- Availability for weekly meetings and time in the office,
- Ability to meet deadlines,
- Passion for Austin and journalism,
- Knowledge of Austin a plus

Marketing and Events Internship
The marketing and events intern will assist in the creation, coordination and implementation of Austin Woman marketing campaigns and events while always looking for other ways to promote awareness and build relationships. They will report directly to the community and events manager working cross-functionally with the editorial team and production coordinator on various initiatives and content needs. Austin and San Marcos area based candidates preferred. NOTE: This is an unpaid internship. Responsibilities:
- Write, research and create multimedia content for Austin Woman digital communications platforms including our social media, newsletters, website and social platform AW Connects
- Manage content calendars
- Increase community engagement on social media platforms and AW Connects
- Stay knowledgeable about the culture in Austin and unique community offerings
- Assist with event prep including promotions and outreach, vendor tracking and research
- Attend AW events and assist in set up, management and break down
- Deliver exceptional hospitality to our community, your fellow teammates, and all of our vendors and partners
- Other duties as assigned
Must-Haves:
- Passion for Austin Woman mission to inspire, celebrate and support the diverse community of women in Austin and its surrounding cities
- Comfort working independently
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Love engaging with people and building relationships
- Creative approach to problem solving
- Ability to work evenings and weekends (advance notice will be given)
Nice-to-Haves:
- Multimedia production experience (video, audio, image, design),
- Familiarity with current softwares (Google Drive, Dropbox, Slack, Planoly, Mailchimp)

Graphic Design Internship
Description:
Work directly with the director of events and brand strategy and editorial team to design graphics for social media, web and print. Interns working for school credit or portfolio building strongly preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Stay in communication with AW team about assignments
- Design graphics for the print magazine, website, sales collateral and and events.
Requirements:
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite,
- Take direction well,
- Comfortable working independently,
- Passion for storytelling through graphic design
