When you find yourself standing in your pain, not sure where to go and what to do, sometimes all you need is someone to say, “I See You.” Austin-based Indian-American soulstress Nagavalli blesses listeners with an anthem of reassurance that you’re never alone. “I See You” offers hope in a time when there seems to be so little of it. As the new year dawns, we are all in need of something to inspire us to keep moving forward.
Nagavalli offers “I See You” as the first single to her upcoming album, Numinosum. She describes the album as “a microcosm of my lived experience between the East and West at so many different levels and how these influences come together in my own songwriting and performing.”
Recorded at Blue Rock Artist Ranch & Studio, Numinosum highlights Nagavalli’s versatility. It’s an album that pays homage to the “divine feminine.” Using invocations and cover songs from both India and Pakistan, Nagavalli marries her Western soul and Eastern traditional influences.
She leans into this feminine energy throughout the album. Bandmate and multi-instrumentalist Katie Marie provides vocals and acts as co-producer. “There are so few female producers in the industry,” Nagavalli says. “For that reason too, I am proud of what she and I have accomplished on this album.”
To commemorate Numinosum‘s release on Feb. 10, Nagavalli will hold an album release party at the Stateside Theatre at the Paramount on Feb. 11. The evening includes Americana folk-rock singer BettySoo and promises more surprises from other guests. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the show starts an hour later. Visit the Paramount Theatre website to purchase tickets to the album release party. It’s sure to be a soul-lifting experience.
