ACMC: 2022 Austin Chamber Music Festival

The Austin Chamber Music Festival takes over the classical music world in Austin every July. By presenting the finest local, emerging, and international-touring chamber artists, ACMC energizes the community with chamber music for three weeks.The 2022 Festival will take place July 8–24. See the program for each concert below. All events to take place at Bates Recital Hall, except The Tale of the Fox on July 24, taking place at AFS Cinema.

Advance tickets on sale now. Save up to 30% on your tickets by getting a discount package of 3+ Festival concerts. Subject to availability, $12 Student Rush (with student ID), $30 General Admission, and $55 Premium tickets may be purchased at the box office on the evening of the concert. The box office will open at 6:30 PM that day. If you prefer to watch online, please select a virtual ticket. Virtual tickets are available on a sliding scale and provide on-demand access starting the Monday after the concert until the end of July.

FRIDAY, JULY 8 AT 8:00 P.M. | PETER BAY & FESTIVAL CHAMBER ORCHESTRA

The opening night of the 2022 Austin Chamber Music Festival features the finest players in the city led by Maestro Peter Bay. The hand-sculpted Festival Chamber Orchestra will provide the quintessential Austin Chamber Music experience; the program includes J.S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 and Joseph Bologne’s Violin Concerto in A Major featuring concertmaster Patrice Calixte. The finale features pianist and Artistic Director Michelle Schumann performing Mozart’s A Major Concerto No. 12.

SATUDAY, JULY 9 AT 7:30 P.M. | MERZ TRIO

Merz Trio, winners of the Naumburg, Concert Artists Guild, Fischoff, and Chesapeake Competitions, present a program of 19th and early 20th-century masterworks teeming with boundary-breaking energy. Beethoven’s middle period masterwork, Op. 70 No. 2, is paired here with four later Viennese songs that draw attention to both its lyrical and virtuosic elements, while Brahms’ glorious C Major Trio is paired with Merz Trio’s virtuosic new arrangement of Ravel’s La Valse, heard here as a full-fledged response to the dancelike, Viennese elements suggested throughout the Brahms.

SUNDAY, JULY 10 AT 3:00 P.M. | THE WINTER’S TALE

Austin Chamber Music Center and Austin Shakespeare present a special blend of music with poetry in their fifth annual collaboration, setting live chamber music to scenes from this Shakespearean work.

FRIDAY, JULY 15 AT 7:30 P.M. | CHAMBER MUSIC SOCIETY OF LINCOLN CENTER

ACMC takes you to NYC for a program featuring some of the world’s finest chamber musicians. The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center will present favorite works for winds and piano, including Poulenc’s Sextet, Beethoven’s Quintet for Piano and Winds, and music by Reicha, Ligeti, and Françaix.

SATURDAY, JULY 16 AT 7:30 P.M. | ANDRE HAYWARD & FRIENDS

In a collaboration with Golden Hornet, ACMC presents jazz legend Andre Hayward.

SUNDAY, JULY 17 AT 3:00 P.M. | PACIFICA QUARTET

The multiple Grammy-winning Pacifica Quartet will join the Festival to perform works by Haydn, Higdon, and Dvorák.

FRIDAY, JULY 22 AT 7:30 P.M. | BOOK OF LONGING

ACMC presents Book of Longing, a song cycle by Philip Glass based on the poetry and artwork of Leonard Cohen. Conductor Andreas Mitisek returns to the Festival to lead eight instrumentalists as well as singers from Austin’s own LOLA.

SATURDAY, JULY 23 AT 7:30 P.M. | BOYD MEETS GIRL

Austin Chamber Music Center in partnership with Austin Classical Guitar presents Boyd Meets Girl, pairing Australian classical guitarist Rupert Boyd with American cellist Laura Metcalf. The duo performs an eclectic and engaging range of repertoire, including works by Debussy, Beyoncé, Florence Price, Caroline Shaw, and The Beatles. Both acclaimed soloists in their own right, Boyd has been described as “truly evocative” by The Washington Post, and as “a player who deserves to be heard” by Classical Guitar Magazine, while Metcalf, also a member of the ensembles Sybarite5 and Break of Reality, has been called “brilliant” by Gramophone.

SUNDAY, JULY 24 AT 3:00 P.M. | INVOKE: THE TALE OF THE FOX (AT AFS CINEMA)

Alt-classical favorites Invoke return to the Austin Chamber Music Festival for a new collaboration with AFS Cinema and the ACMC Workshop. The quartet will perform an original live score to The Tale of the Fox, the first fully animated feature film by 20th-century stop-motion animation pioneer Ladislas Starevich.
