Salvador Dali’s Naked Feast

We’re kicking off The VORTEX’s 35th Coral Anniversary season with Austin’s biggest party of the year! Bring on your surreal as we enter Dali’s universe with a performance-installation-cocktail party embodying his aesthetic. The event includes live music, tango, human canvas, photo ops, Dali’s original Casanova Cocktail and delicious food art. The audience will have opportunities to observe or participate in an outrageous blend of spectacle, food, art and dream. Contests and prizes! Costumes encouraged!

Día de los Muertos

Waterloo Greenway presents Día de los Muertos at Waterloo Park on Nov. 1 and 2. Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, long observed in Mexico, is a holiday now embraced globally. Each culture infuses their own unique influences into two days of vibrant festivities that honor the dead. Gather with us as at this free two-day celebration with community altars, cultural activations, live music and dance.

You won’t want to miss this year’s 10th Anniversary ConnectHER Film Festival held at St. Andrew’s Dell Fine Arts Theater in Austin. We’ll give out more than $30,000 in awards, screen films and hear words from inspiring leaders at our awards ceremony. This powerful event celebrates global leaders and young filmmakers who are making a difference for women and girls around the world. Prior to the red carpet event and awards, we are offering another afternoon of exciting panels with industry insiders and young filmmakers.

Blue Lapis Light Belonging is an original site work performance by Blue Lapis Light that highlights the beauty of our earth and our relationship to one another. The performance features aerial dancers on the Seaholm architecture with aerialists swinging from the stacks, ground dancers and projection-mapped imagery focused on the sustainability of our environment.

Nightbird: March 3 to 25, 2023. What should be built in place of a recently removed Confederate monument? Join us for the premiere of this wildly funny and thought-provoking new play.

Indecent: April 21,to,May 14, 2023. Dive into the fascinating true story of Sholem Asch’s controversial play The God of Vengeance, and the passionate artists who risked everything to bring it to the stage.

SEPTEMBER 9 – 24, 2022

The VORTEX launches its 35th season with the world premiere of Edit Annie by Mary Glen Fredrick, directed by NNPN directing fellow Will Detlefsen for three weeks only at The VORTEX. Detlefsen, is here as part of the National New Play Network’s Director Fellowship program, which began in conjunction with the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center, The Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival and the Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation.

Ventana Ballet
