Wow your Date with these unique spots in Austin.
By Janaye Barabin
Everyone knows going out for dinner is a classic Valentine’s Day date. But it’s a little predictable. There are more memorable things to do in Austin, the city known for keeping things weird. Whether you’re a couple looking to break out of your routine or a hopeful single looking to leave an impression, go on a memorable date that will make your night truly special.
Get Cozy in a Cave
Is your date a wine aficionado? If so, they’ll adore the speakeasy Wanderlust Wine Cave hidden in Wanderlust Wine’s Barton Springs location. The rustic charm and dimly lit ambiance creates an environment of indulgence and elegance that will make you feel like you’ve been transported somewhere else.
“It’s the perfect hidden gem for a romantic escape or surprising your special someone with an extraordinary experience,” says Sammy Lam, owner and founder of Wanderlust.
You can choose between the grand Italian tasting or the sommeliers choice tasting. The grand Italian tasting is guided by expert sommeliers and features “nine exquisite Italian wines, each perfectly paired with chef-curated bites inspired by Italy’s rich culinary traditions.”
The Sommelier’s Choice Wine features a selection of three premium wines typically available only by the bottle. Whichever option you choose, your date is sure to be impressed.

Throw Some Clay
The date night package at Broad Studios Club House is perfect for the crafty person in your life. Each couple receives a bottle of wine, a personal charcuterie board and two pre-centered balls of clay for throwing on the wheel. They’ll finish and fire your pot once you leave, and when you and your date return to (fingers crossed) pick up your pots they’ll give you a cute plant to put in it.

Cook with Fresh Ingredients
Instead of having a traditional Valentine’s Day dinner, you and your date could take it a step further by taking a cooking class at Thai Fresh. The classes are taught by Chef Jam Sanitchat who specializes in traditional Thai cuisine and uses fresh, local ingredients. There’s no need to be nervous about your culinary skills.
Chef Sanitchat says “the intimate setting and hands-on approach make the classes perfect for all skill levels. The best part? You get to enjoy the delicious meal you’ve created!”

Boat Back in Time
A boat tour around downtown Austin with Retro Boat Rentals ATX will be a date you won’t forget. These beautiful vintage fiberglass boats will create a romantic experience that feels straight out of The Notebook. These Jet Age era boats are fully restored with quiet electric motors, creating an intimate and serene experience for your date.

Laugh at an Iconic Austin Spot
If your date loves to laugh, Esther’s Follies is the place to go for a memorable night. This iconic venue delivers “whip-smart political satire, musical parody and large scale magical illusions” every weekend on East Sixth. Words cannot fully describe the magic that is Esther’s Follies, but this will be a memory you and your date will look back on fondly.
Make Your Own Sushi
At Uroko you have the choice of dining in or, if you don’t mind getting your hands dirty, you can sign up for their sushi class – perfect for all skill levels.
Owner Kayo Asazu says their classes “[are]a fun and educational way to learn the art of sushi. [They] have a casual and relaxed atmosphere that anyone can join!”
Chow Down on Caribbean Cuisine
The Victory Grill is a historic landmark on the east side that’s described as “both sexy and alluring, blending historic charm with modern elegance.” Your date is sure to be charmed by their menu of southern and Caribbean-infused cuisine.
If that doesn’t tempt you there’s a secret tucked behind the Victory Grill. The Busy Signal speakeasy serves craft cocktails and they showcase a variety of entertainment. As their website says, this speakeasy has something for everyone.
