Q: What kind of results can someone expect from LASIK?

At our practice, most patients achieve 20/20 or better vision. We utilize Custom All-Laser LASIK technology. This is the same technology approved by NASA and the U.S Military for our astronauts and pilots.

Q: Who is a good candidate for LASIK?

The ideal LASIK patient is at least 18 years of age, has stable vision for the past 12 months, a healthy cornea, and are in overall good health. If a patient has conditions such as early cataracts, presbyopia (loss of near vision after 40), or a high prescription, they might be better suited for other procedures we offer, such as ICL implants or Refractive Lens Exchange.

Q: What is Refractive Lens Exchange?

If a patient is over 40, has experienced a loss of near vision while wearing their glasses or contacts or have early cataracts, Refractive Lens Exchange or RLE might be a better option. The procedure involves removing the eyes natural lens and replacing it will a new artificial lens. This technology may allow patients to see at
all distances, even up close, with little or no dependence on glasses.

Q: How long does LASIK last? Will a patient need to wear glasses or contacts again?

LASIK is a permanent procedure. Less than 5% of patients require an enhancement, which is finetuning of the original procedure. However, most patients over 40 will require reading glasses due to presbyopia, which naturally occurs due to the eyes natural lens becoming less flexible. These patients can elect to have monovision LASIK, in which we correct their dominant eye for distance vision and non-dominant eye for reading vision. Monovision is an excellent option for those over 40, especially if they wore monovision contacts lens in the past.

Q: How long does it take to see after having LASIK?

Immediately following the LASIK procedure, patients are instructed to go home and rest for
a few hours, keeping their eyes closed during that time. Patients can watch television and walk around the house the same evening as their procedure, but their vision maybe blurry. The next day, most patients wake-up with 20/20 or better vision!
