The Young Women’s Alliance (YWA) is an organization devoted to the professional and personal development of women leaders in Central Texas. For more than 20 years, YWA has been a staple in the Austin community, driven by our four pillars: lead, educate, network, and serve. YWA hosts a Monthly Speaker Series that is free for members and welcomes community leaders with inspirational stories and accomplishments.

Melody Afkami is an unorthodox fitness entrepreneur with a psychology degree from the University of Texas and over 15 years of dance experience. Melody offers a new style of fitness that blends positive psychology with intense dance cardio in a club atmosphere. Melody completed a fitness instructor certification in 2014 and instantly fell in love with teaching dance fitness. After teaching for a year and volunteering with Dress for Success, Melody quit her corporate career to create her own brand of dance fitness with a focus on women empowerment, community, and philanthropy. A portion of all proceeds of Melody DanceFit are donated to the nonprofit Dress For Success.

From her disco-lit classes to crazy flash mobs, the brand of DanceFit has cultivated a dedicated following of people who consistently show up – not only for the workout, but for the continuous reminder to shed their ego and celebrate themselves. Melody was named Most Moving Instructor of 2016, 2017, and 2018 by ClassPass and has over 3 thousand 5 star reviews. Her brand has been featured in Texas Monthly, Austin Monthly, Austin Woman, and Austin Fit Magazine. She’s been hired to teach for companies like Lululemon, Outdoor Voices, and The Hollis Company. She travels nationwide to collaborate with like minded brands, showcasing that anyone can dance, and her viral YouTube video boasting more than 29 million views “Havana” certainly proves that.
