Thread Count: A Female-centric Confrontation of Tradition
February 28, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Thread Count is a show dedicated to fabric art by five female Austin artists. The artists explore the limits and possibilities of fabric art and batik working in their own compelling themes and styles. A common thread between the artists’ work is the tension they feel navigating their own ‘traditional’ female roles in their art, lives, and the art-world as a whole. Other themes that come forward in this self-organized and curated show are immigrant identity, belonging, the exploration of cultural differences and expressions, the interweaving of community, the human problem of the body as a cultural and biological entity and the trials of dealing with mental illness in the American health care system.
