Survivor HeARTS and CommUNITY Celebration

April 27, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm

The Texas Association Against Sexual Assault is hosting its second Survivor HeARTS and CommUNITY Celebration on April 27, capping off a month of activities during Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month. The event honors and celebrates survivors and allies through artistic expression.

“An interactive community art piece is the centerpiece of this event,” said TAASA CEO Rose Luna. “It highlights the prevalence of sexual violence in Texas while offering words of hope and solidarity to survivors and their allies.

The Survivor HeARTS and CommUNITY Celebration will feature speakers, performers, and other arts-based programming to raise awareness of the issue and solidify a community of people committed to ending sexual violence.

Among the artists featured are: Ena Ganguly, a queer Bengali immigrant invested in the holistic well-being and joy of queer communities of color in the South; Chulita Vinyl Club, made up of women, gender-non-conforming, non-binary, LGBTQ+ and self-identifying people of color launched in 2014 with the context of providing a safe space for empowerment, togetherness, and to utilize music and vinyl as a form of resistance against the erasure of culture; singer/songwriter Rebecca Koval; Anna Westbrook, an experienced communicator who specializes in speaking on emotionally charged topics without fear, guilt, or shame; and artist and musician Rora Wilde.

Donations are welcome, and TAASA will be raffling items with a suggested donation of $5 to enter the raffle and attend.
