Come join us at The Yard to celebrate the reveal of the mural we recently brought to Austin. Now, we are throwing a party to share it with the community.

The mural honors two fabulously talented female artists who had the courage to follow their dreams far away from home: Pola Negri, an emigre from Poland to the United States, who became a Hollywood icon of the Silent Cinema and Josephine Baker, an African American born in the US, who became one of the most successful and admired entertainers in her adopted France. To match the symmetry in their life experiences and build connections across cultures, we engaged two visual artists from different cultural and ethnic backgrounds to do the job: a Polish artist, Julia Mirny, and a local Austin muralist, Dan Terry.

The mural is at The Yard, 440 E St Elmo St, on the building 444A by the new Tesla parking lot.

We plan to start at 7 pm in front of the mural itself with a talk about the concept of this project, the artists involved, and a short Q&A. The party will follow at the Texas Saké Co right across from the mural site. Professional tango dancers will kick off the party with a dance show. After that the floor is yours! We’ll have live music, a video background going with some archival footage with Pola and Josephine, decorations, and all that jazz in the style of the 1920s and 30s, the glory days of both divas. Flapper dresses and dancing shoes are welcome to spike the flavor!

The venue, Texas Sake Co, is fabulous. They make their own sake on site – ready to taste! There will even be a food stand with Polish delicacies and Japanese food truck as well. The front wall will be open to the outside to maintain good ventilation for everyone’s comfort and safety.
