Black History Month: Brunch and Bike

February 27, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Six Square and Black History Bike Ride are collaborating for Black History Month to present a unique bike tour celebrating the legacy of Black Austin women. On Sunday, February 27 at 10am, join us for a ride led by Black History Bike Ride’s founder, Talib Abdullahi. The route will end at CarverMuseumATX, where riders can enjoy a light brunch sponsored by Tito’s Vodka as well as an exclusive walkthrough of the Carver’s latest exhibition, Peace to the Queen, with curator Ja’nell Ajani.

The tour will start at the Waterloo Greenway thanks to our friends at the Waterloo Grenway Conservancy.

Special thanks to our sponsors: Tito’s Vodka and woom bikes!

ABOUT THE EXHIBIT

“Peace to the Queen” is a phrase often used by New York-based photographer Jamel Shabazz. Spoken as a greeting or a farewell, Shabazz uses “Peace to the Queen” as a way to respect and honor Black women and women of color. Inspired by the artist’s refrain, this exhibition explores Shabazz’s extensive body of work, highlighting the care and nuance with which he photographs his subjects—women in the street, in the studio, in their homes, and elsewhere.

Rider spots are capped at 100. Grab yours today!
