There’s always something happening in Austin, and you know we’re chatting about all the latest news and gossip around town in our office. Every Friday, we’ll share the buzziest things you need to know. Everything from events to the most newsworthy local topics, we’ve got you! From our office to you, here’s The 512.

Pay day: SmartAsset ranked Austin the fifth best city in the country for women’s pay. From 2015 to 2017, the study reported that median earnings for women rose more than 16 percent. Austin is also moving up on the list for worst traffic. In May, Business Insider ranked Austin the 14th most congested city in the country. You win some, you lose some.

College tour: This week, Jimmy Fallon announced he’s taking The Tonight Show on the road. Nov. 7, The Tonight Show will broadcast from the University of Texas with some “amazing guests” and “lots of surprises.” Welcome to the 40 Acres, Jimmy!

I voted: The Austin chapter of League of Women Voters celebrates 100 years this weekend. The chapter, which was founded a year before the national organization, publishes nonpartisan voting guides and helps educate Austinites about policy and the importance of civic participation. According to the league, membership is up 162 percent since 2015.

On strike: Austinites can join people throughout the world striking against climate change today at the Texas Capitol at 10 a.m. If you need some friends to go with you, Outdoor Voices is hosting a sign-making event at its headquarters before #protestingthings.

Let’s get vulnerable: UT is hosting another special guest this fall: everyone’s favorite vulnerability guru, Brené Brown. In partnership with The Center for Sports Leadership & Innovation, Brown will give a talk about “leadership in the age of toughness.” We’ll be rewatching her Netflix special to prep.
