Nearly 1 Million Followers

Fans rejoiced when Julia Roberts joined Instagram this summer. 17 Percent

Since 1975, the number of women in state legislatures has risen from 8 percent to 25 percent, according to The New York Times. As of now, 37 percent of Democratic state lawmakers and 17 percent of Republican state lawmakers are women.

More Than $2,000

After undergoing a mastectomy, many women choose to get realistic nipple tattoos as a way of reclaiming their bodies after beating breast cancer. The cost for a 3-D nipple tattoo or scar- concealing mastectomy tattoo can range anywhere from $200 to more than $2,000, depending on the complexity of the artwork. Pink Ink Fund, a nonprofit founded by tattoo artist Amy Black, raises money for breast-cancer survivors who cannot otherwise pay for this artistic form of healing.

12 Years Old

Ibtihaj Muhammad was 12 years old when she began fencing, and in 2016, she became the first woman on Team USA to compete in the Olympics while wearing a hijab. Her new memoir, Proud: My Fight for an Unlikely American Dream, hit the shelves this summer.

Nineteen businesswomen were included on Fortune’s 40 Under 40 list this year. Among the top 10, three are women, including former Austin Woman cover woman Whitney Wolfe Herd, founder and CEO of female-driven dating app Bumble.
