SXSW 2025 – Performing Space: Weaving Art and Science on the Stage

Assistant Professor of Theatre and Performance Studies at UCLA Felipe Cervera moderates the panel 'Performing Space: Weaving Art and Science on the Stage'.

Experience science in a more creative outlet than ever before by incorporating the performing arts.

UCLA's Felipe Cervera engaged in conversation with LA Department of Cultural Affairs' Dolores Chavez and NASA's Kaitlyn Soares about the intersection of science and arts, specifically the performing arts and space exploration.

Los Angeles Performing Arts Center Director Dolores Chavez utilizes her knowledge in cultural affairs to discuss the relationship between science and arts.

The three panelists joined their individual knowledge and experiences to discuss projects, research, and communication strategies that can be developed for future engagement of science and the arts. To show an immediate example of the arts converging with science, a special performance was given at the end of the panel with a song about NASA's Mars Opportunity Rover.

Kaitlyn Soares, Public Engagement Lead at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, engages the audience by speaking about her interest in converging science and arts.

SXSW panel recording can be found at SXSW.com.

A special performance is given to wrap up the panel with a song about NASA's Mars Opportunity Rover.
