It’s time to close the gap between the percentage of women in the wine industry and the percentage of female wine professionals in leadership positions.

That’s what the first-ever Wonder Women of Wine Conference is all about. It’s a conference advocating for gender equality in the wine industry and examining leadership and professional opportunities in an effort to foster gender equality.

The two-day conference, March 2 and 3 in Austin at the Sunset Room on E. Third St., will examine inequities in the wine business, but more importantly, will offer solutions and strategies to help women change paradigms, eliminate gender-based barriers and create equal opportunities. The second day will also feature a tasting of wines from female winery owners and winemakers.

Nationally recognized wine expert and The Wine Bible author Karen MacNeil will kick off the conference, which also includes dozens of accomplished women wine professionals from Central Texas and across the country. Speakers include Marissa Ross, wine columnist for Bon Appetit and author of Wine All the Time: The Casual Guide to Confident Drinking. They will undoubtedly tell it like it is and share personal experiences that have shaped their careers.

Not to be missed, the Women in Wine Conference will be a no-holds-barred conversation—for both women and men—to look for ways to disrupt the status quo.

Founded by wine businesswoman and advanced sommelier Rania Zayyat, the conference will also look at what it takes to be a winery owner and winemaker and examine the benefits and values of accreditation versus experience in working in the wine business.

“We want to shift the culture in the wine industry, both professionally and socially, to be more inclusive of all genders and all backgrounds,” Zayyat says.

Tickets for the two-day conference are $130 and are available hereAustin Woman magazine is the media sponsor. Other sponsors include Becky Wasserman, The Wine & Food Foundation of Texas, Richard’s Rainwater, Houndstooth Coffee, Classified Wine & Spirits, Winebow, Resign Wine and Bufalina Pizza.
