Happy International Women’s Day! Since the early 1900s, March 8 has served as a global celebration of women and a reminder there is still much to be done to achieve equality. What better way to celebrate than with your girls in Austin? Grab your friends and check out our guide for a serious dose of girl power.

Celebrate the Power of X

7 p.m. to 10 p.m. | Free | The Blackheart

Join the SXSW party with the festival’s first event dedicated solely to International Women’s Day. Enjoy drinks, hors d’oeuvres and live music from female groups on Rainey Street and hear from executives leading all your favorites brands like Bumble and Lululemon. And you won’t want to miss the founder of Austin Woman and On The Dot, Melinda Garvey, as the emcee. RSVP here.

 

International Women’s Day Yellow Hour

7 p.m. to 9 p.m. | Free | Space 24 Twenty

Feeling artsy? Participate in a group mural with Boss Babes while you munch on happy-hour snacks. Don’t forget to wear yellow in honor of Unity in Color, a photography project that celebrates the diversity and strength of women. RSVP here.

 

ATX Celebrates International Women’s Day 2018

7 p.m. to midnight | $10 | Rattletree School of Marimba

Enjoy music from around the world and hear from Latino leader Cristina Tzintzun and local journalist and author Olga Campos Benz on their experiences with economic disparity, violence and obstacles in their fields. This event is “intended to heal, inspire and provoke joy as a means of resistance.” Purchase tickets here.

 

International Women’s Day Celebration with Well Aware and Greg Davis

5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. | Free | Gusto Studios

National Geographic photographer Greg Davis is partnering with Austin nonprofit Well Aware to celebrate International Women’s Day through photography. Davis has traveled with Well Aware to Kenya to document the lives of women and girls. Enjoy drinks and snacks as you check out the photography and learn more about their joint effort to support women around the world. RSVP here.
